Thinking about a Saiga 12

I stopped by the local gun shop yesterday to buy ammo and do some browsing, and they had a Saiga 12 in stock. I've already got a Yugo M70, and I love the AK type weapons, so I think this would make a great addition to my collection.

However, I've already got too many guns (according to my wife, but hey, it was her suggestion to buy some... I just ran with it), plus I don't really want to spend the cash on another gun when I could spend it on PMs or other essentials.

I'm thinking about trading in my Remington 870 (old police model from the 60s) and my Walther SP22, both of which I bought at the same gun shop earlier this year, to get the Saiga 12. I guess I'm just looking for opinions on whether or not it's a good idea to switch from a Remington 870 to the Saiga 12.

My thinking is that if Obama gets elected and guns start getting banned, the Saiga is pretty high on the list of guns that won't be available anymore. I figure the 870 (and the .22 pistol) are much less likely to be banned, and I can always buy replacements later on after gold and silver take off

Also, why are the Saigas so expensive now? I keep reading all these reviews and forum postings saying how they bought them back during the AWB for less then $300, and now that they should be easier to get, they go for $550-$600. I know of the change in the company that imports them, but that was in 2005. Shouldn't prices have come back down by now, or is there still an issue with the BATF?

I figure with trading in my two guns, I should be able to get the Saiga and some ammo, and maybe some cash back too... or maybe just some more ammo.

No way I would trade out of an 870 to get a Saiga 12 but that is just me.

They are hard to get. Borderline scarce.

I have one. Love it.

Your trade sounds great.

Wow, I didnt realize the prices went up like that. I bought mine when it was around 340 or so. I absolutely love the thing and I totally agree that it is high on the list of bannable firearms so your logic is completely solid. I would do the trade in your shoes as you can buy those firearms back later without too much worry of them getting banned- because once stuff like 870 shotguns and 22 pistols get banned its going to be all out revolution on the streets anyway!

I have no first hand experience with them, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm buying a Saiga 7.62 next week, and hope to get a Saiga 12 before Christmas.

The supply has dried up. Shipments still sitting offshore waiting for BATF approval? Recent "pi$$ing-match" with the Russkies? Whatever, they are popular and now hard-to-find...If you want one, buy it now, cuz the way we are going there ain't no guarantee any more will be coming in after the election/inauguration. Besides, someone will buy it if you don't, IMO.

A trap-shooter friend uses his to shoot sporting clays with...loves it.

I took my guns into the shop to trade, but the offer they gave me for them was WAY too low... $120 for the Walther SP-22 and $180 for the Remington 870. I didn't trade the guns in, but I did end up putting the Saiga on lay away. Got it for $550.

I have a 7.62 and I will be taking long gun classes tommarow .... got a 870 but I think I may get the 12 gauge as well since all this great talk about them

Cheaper than dirt has a good sale going with some brass cased Fiochii(20 rounds) for the 7.62 going for less than eight bucks.

Jump on it.

We had to sign up with every distributor we could to get a decent amount in stock. each distributor would only dole out like 2 or 3 to each retailer.... and they go quick too.
RAA said this last shipment might have actually been the last shipment if a new AWB comes close on the heels of an Obama victory... (of course, they would say that.)
We've still got a few, but were proud of em ($599)

Why? Because it is trendy? Now it will be overpriced. Get something that is just as good, like an American pump gun.

Well I have the 7.62 and maybe it would be good to have another model by the same manufacture.
